In this feature Neha Agarwal describes a spot in her living room that blends a traditional Indian brass urli with a Feng Shui influenced bamboo arrangement!
A confluence of cultures, traditional Indian and Feng Shui!
Some metal, some wood and a little bit of green! Thisparticular theme is in the living-cum-dining room towards the veneer wall unit.
The intricate details on the front of the Urli
The intricately carved brass urli is placed on a raised wooden mantle and is one of the main artifacts in this area.
The goddess Saraswati flanked by peacocks
The urli depicts Goddess Saraswati in the center of the arch with peacocks on either side. On occasions such as Holi and Diwali, I decorate this piece with floating LED candles and gerbera/marigold flowers.
The urli and wooden planter are placed at different levels
There is a sense of uniqueness to the wooden planter which is placed on a brass bajot/ chowki at a lower level as compared to the urli.
The planter is contemporary in shape but traditional in detail
While itsshape is contemporary, the detailed brass work on the outside gives it atraditional look.
The bamboos provide a green spot of color
The long bamboo shoots break the monotonous heavy metal andwood arrangement and give the spot a fresh and green, Feng Shui influenced highlight!
