Tips for buying Overhead Water Tank

Water tanks are one of the most used things in your home that you don't consciously remember because it has always been there. The important thing for most of us is that water should be available when we open our taps, be it in the kitchens or the bathrooms. But how many of us think about the water tanks on top of our homes? Not many, I’m sure. So we at HomeTriangle consulted our experts and have come up with the 4 main things you should always consider when buying/maintaining a water tank.

    1. The Material to choose for Overhead Tank

While there are many options to choose from, for residential(overhead tanks) use, you should always go for tanks made of food-grade, BPA free Polyethylene plastic. Also called PETE tanks, they are better in terms of cost, maintenance, and safety than tanks made of other materials like concrete or metal.

2. Does the Colour Make any Difference?

The color of the water tank makes all the difference. Light-colored water tanks will allow a certain amount of light to pass through promoting the growth of algae and other micro-organisms in the tank. So most people usually prefer a dark-colored tank in order to kill algae growth. With half our country in the tropical zone, we would also advise you to go for a dark-colored overhead water tank.

3 . Algae Prevention

As discussed above the biggest threat you face will be keeping the algae out. So always go for a completely opaque water tank. Without the sunlight, algae will not be able to reproduce. Basically means, no light no algae. You could also try chlorine or bleach as they both kill algae. Never use bleach and chlorine though.

4. Protect the quality of water in your tanks.

Make sure the water tanks are always closed to decrease the risk of leaves or bird droppings falling into your water tanks. Also, clean your tanks regularly, once every 4 months. Even though the water in most of the cities is already processed, you might want to consider using little bleach or chlorine to kill the micro-organisms in the water.

Cleaning the water tank could be a mundane task. And that is precisely why most of us overlook the work. But in order to make sure that the water you are using is not polluted, it is necessary to clean the water tank regularly, especially if it is kept in an open place with a lot of sunlight.

Finding somebody to clean your water tank could be the most difficult thing you will have to do in major cities like Bangalore, Hyderabad, and Chennai. HomeTriangle makes it easy for you to hire trained and experienced Water Tank Cleaning professionals for cleaning your water tank.
