The truth is we are all stuck at homes during this lockdown even though we don’t want to be. And it is for the better. While it may seem like a hard challenge, the fact is that it is important to stay home to counter the COVID-19 pandemic. That is the only way we can ensure that we neither get it nor we spread it. But does it have to be boring? Absolutely not! While the ‘Millenials’ and ‘gen z’ has gotten used to living online, we are bound to get bored after surfing through Instagram and TikTok. And that exactly is why, HomeTriangle has come up with a list of fun things to do at home to banish boredom, especially if you have children at home.

1. Play Board Games

Dive into a game of Chess, Snakes, and Ladders or any other game that your family likes. Find a board game that's age-appropriate so everyone can participate. The family that plays games together stays together — or at least they have a lot more fun!

2. Make Homemade Greeting Cards

Clear off the kitchen table and break out the construction paper, pens, and glue. Handmade cards are a unique way for your family to connect and do something creative together. Have each family member write a personal message, long or short, to the recipients.

3. Put together a Puzzle

Puzzle-making is a calming way to spend time together at home. Hours can be spent finding just the right pieces to add to the puzzle. The best part is when you see the finished product. This isn’t a one-night activity, so set aside a place that the puzzle can be undisturbed. If you have a spare table that isn’t used daily, you could have it there on display and readily available to continue on.

4. Read Books

The art of reading aloud has lost its popularity. Pick out a book that would interest your family and have an evening each week that you read the story aloud. Take turns reading out loud. Interact about what is going on in the storyline. This can be your own family book club.

5. Learn Yoga

Yoga is so beneficial for every age group. As a family unit, learn yoga. Once again, there are many learning tools for this. You can find videos at your local library. This is a refreshing way to enjoy healthy interaction as a family.

6. Play Indoor Badminton

Just because you can’t go out doesn't mean you can't enjoy an outdoor activity in the comfort of your home. Use a sofa or a chair as the badminton net and grab your badminton rackets and birdie. You and your partner can hit the birdie back and forth using boundary lines you create.

7. Learn New Skill or Upgrade Skills

Make this best time to learn/ upgrade a new Skill related to career or personal interests. A lot of online sources are available for free or with minimal charges.

8. Arrange an Indoor Picnic with Family

Pull out a blanket and eat dinner picnic-style in a new setting. Put on an old movie or your favorite Netflix drama and enjoy an evening with your partner eating in front of the TV.

9. Declutter a Space in your Home

When you're stuck at home for some reason, use the time to declutter an area of your home that's been bothering you. Clean out that junk drawer in your kitchen, organize the garage, or finally go through those boxes in the basement. Take it one project at a time and enjoy the process of streamlining your stuff.

10. Try a New Recipe

As a family, pick out a country you would like to learn more about and are interested in. Find cuisine that is unique to that country. Prepare a dinner that would be served in that country. The family can even find clothing that is worn in the country and wear it to dinner. Each family member would be responsible to bring one fact about the country to share at dinner time.
