Self Injury Awareness Day (SIAD) is observed on the 1st of March annually to raise awareness about self-injury and mental health. Self-injury is an intentional act of cutting, hitting, scratching, and burning.
Often associated with depression and anxiety, SIAD demands a supportive society for affected individuals without a scope of judgment. Strengthening mental health and implementing a stigma-free community is a must.
Consult a therapist or counsellor to know the root causes of self-injury. They can advise healthier coping strategies and understand mental health conditions affecting the behaviour.
Surround yourself with a supportive group of people who understand you and create happiness around you. They can be family members, friends, teachers and other supportive community members.
To eliminate self-injury or self-harm, practice self-care activities. Exercise, meditate, read books, watch movies, listen to music, and entail your favourite skill in routine. Love yourself and bid farewell to negative thoughts.
Recovery takes time and continuous effort, and one must acknowledge it. Reward yourself for the small victories, and be kind to your dedicated mind.
Don’t get disheartened by failures, don’t step back. Keep trying until you grab the goal. Remember, consistency is the key to success.
