5 Tips To Have A Happy And A Healthy Summer: 2024 Edition
Winter is he- Oops! I mean, Summer is here! Summer is the best time to fulfil all your adventures. It's the season of relaxation for school kids, the season of adventure for the grown-ups, and the season of warmth for the elders. Summer is the best time to indulge in fun and healthy activities. And that is why I'm here to give you some tips on how to have a happy and healthy summer this year:
1) Hydration Is The Key
Like it or not, Summer will make us drink plenty of water. But wait! That's not enough! According to a recent study, a person weighing 60 kg(Kilograms) should drink 3 litres of water. Which means 1 litre for each 20 kg(Kilograms) we weigh. So, even if you drink, let's say, 3 litres of water, Summer weather can consume more fluid from our bodies. It's better to track the amount of water you drink to ensure your body consumes enough water. You can also consume foods like Watermelon, Oranges, Cucumber, Coconut Water, or Pineapple, which hydrate our bodies.
2) Skin Protection
Is it just me, or do we all hate summer afternoons? Probably the only thing people despise on a summer day is the extreme sunlight. But don't worry, there is a solution! *drum roll please*........... Sunscreen! Yes. Sunscreen can heavily protect us from UV rays, which are hazardous to our bodies. Apply a high-SPF Sunscreen(more than 50 SPF) every 2 hours when you're out having fun. Apart from this, wear sunglasses and hats to protect your eyes and reduce the chances of sunburn. A pro tip would be to wake up early during summer to consume the better part of the sunlight that shines between 6 am and 10 am.
3) Eat Fresh Foods
In this day and age, people are obsessed with junk food. What initially started as a "comfort food" has become an addiction now. But whatever happened, let's now take a chance to restart a healthy life from this summer. Strawberries, for example, are filled with fibre and antioxidants, while Watermelon is rich in Vitamin A & C. Cucumbers have high water content, while Green Beans and Tomatoes have Vitamin K & C. Here is a list of healthy foods that you can include in your diet this summer:
- Spinach
- Avocado
- Corn
- Lemon
- Orange
- Yoghurt
- Ragi
- Grilled Chicken
- Fish
- Zucchini
4) Indulge In Physical Activities
Now that you know what to drink, eat, apply, and wear, it's time to explore the activities you can do during summer. Did you know swimming for 30 minutes can burn up to 300 calories? This low-impact workout is the best option to indulge in to beat the heat and make yourself fit. Hiking can be another activity that prioritizes weight management and bone health. Activities like Kayaking, Cycling, Surfing, or outdoor sports like Cricket, Football, Beach Volleyball, and Basketball can be both fun and healthy. If you keep your phone and video games aside, there are plenty of options to be healthy.
5) Mindfulness
While summer is the perfect season for fresh fruits and fitness sports, it is also the time to relax. Incorporating practices like Yoga, Meditation, and Tai Chi can benefit your overall well-being as it is proven to reduce stress and enhance self-awareness among individuals. You can also head out to the beach with your friends and family to spend quality time in a serene atmosphere. If these are for the day, Stargazing with your loved ones at night can be a fun and relaxing activity. All these relaxing activities can help rejuvenate your body and make you appreciate the bright season that brings a smile to people.
While having good food and indulging in activities can make you healthy, do not forget to get adequate sleep of at least 7-8 hours for your body to recover. Wishing a happy summer ahead to all of you!
